He started to play soccer when he was 4 years old, in a small club in his town. After 5 years  he changed to the best club in his town to develop further. At this time he  started to join part-time boarding school of Dirk Helmig, a former professional soccerplayer, where he progressed a lot. There, a Scout made him an offer to play at ETB Schwarz Weiß Essen in the “Niederrheinliga” (2^nd highest) in the U15, where he got runner-up in the following year with his team. Apart from the part-time boarding school, and the general practice of his team he got extra (German Soccer Association (DFB)) base training with the team of the “Best of Town-Selection” of Essen. In the U19 he played at Bayer Uerdingen in the Niederrheinliga (2^nd highest) where he developed his technical abilities a lot. Despite of the relegation of his team, he stayed in the club and helped to reach the promotion to the Niederrheinliga directly in the next year (10/11) instead of changing to another, higher playing team.

He played in teams, where very good players with a bad character ruined the team and so reduced the success. Because of those experiences teamspirit and loyality are essential to him. He has been very small, which denied him the chance to play in a team of the highest league. In the course of time his physical deficits passed and besides he developed from a small and quite tall guy who has always only been a part of a team, to a leader who takes responsibility for the whole team and leads his teammates also on the soccer field.

Most time of his soccer-career he played as offensive centre, due to his technical ability and his playing strength, but in the last 2 years he played the defensive centre part in his team, to use his ability to lead the team and influence the tactical game, where he improved a lot his combative behavior.
