How is the training and season in the USA structured?
Baseball training at American universities is absolutely professional. You complete around five training units on the baseball field per week. The training is supplemented by regular strength and endurance units in sports halls, some of which are specially made for baseball teams.
Incidentally, the higher training density does not clash with the course: the times of the lectures are adjusted according to the training plan. As a baseball player in the USA, you reach a level that you could only have dreamed of in Germany. Because of the high intensity of training, the baseball teams have excellent conditions for physiotherapists, chiropractors and medical professionals. They also have access to all regeneration facilities that meet the highest standards.
The baseball season starts in spring. This is why the trainers want you to start your studies in the jumping semester. However, there is nothing to prevent you from starting your studies in the fall semester. This is where the long preparation for the season with a few test matches usually takes place with the fall training.
The national championships for all three leagues take place in May or June.
Requirements for your scholarship
Virtually every high school has its own team. That is why the selection process at the top universities is very tough, because there usually many good players apply for one of the few available places in the squad.
Nevertheless, you don’t have to bury your head in the sand. Smaller Division I as well as Division II and NAIA Institutes also offer outstanding baseball programs that are roughly on par with the national youth teams in this country.
As a result, you should already have gained experience in the highest German youth league in order to have a good chance of a sports scholarship for baseball in the USA.
