As a cyclist, you also have the opportunity to relocate your sporting and academic career to the USA with a scholarship. The teams at the universities are often very well equipped and are very international. In addition, there is a very special team spirit in the cycling team, through daily training and living together on the university campus.
There are different disciplines in college cycling. In addition to the traditional road race, there is also mountain biking. Many universities offer both disciplines, while others specialize.

How many scholarships are there?

Obtaining an athletic scholarship is the ultimate goal for all of our athletes. But how many teams are there and how many full scholarships can they award? On average, athletic scholarships worth $ 1.2 million are awarded to approximately 60 cyclists each year.

How is the training and the season structured in the USA?

The training is not that different from the training content in other parts of the world. However, the team spirit is also very high in training, so that the teammates push each other to achieve top performances. The majority of the trainers are full-time employees of the university and take full care of the team. In addition, the cyclists have full access to physiotherapists, strength trainers and nutritionists from the university.

The national mountain bike championships take place every October and are an excellent preparation for the road season. Incidentally, this climaxes relatively early in the year with the national championships in March. Afterwards, the cyclists can fully concentrate on the season in Europe.
In between, USAC organizes thousands of regional and local USA competitions each year, where racers of the same strength compete. The association has introduced a category system for all cyclists, with category five being the lowest and category one the highest. Racing experience allows you to move from one category to the next higher.
