How many scholarships are there?

Obtaining a sport scholarship is the ultimate goal of our athletes. But how many scholarships are actually available in the United States? Water divers are a part of the swimming team. They benefit from the swimming team’s large budgets.

Universities with swim teams:

  • Men: 225
  • Women: 318

Full scholarships per team:

  • Men: 10
  • Women: 14

How is the training in the USA structured?

Water divers are part of the swimming team and train almost as often and for as long as the swimmers. The first workout usually takes place in the morning before the classes start and then again in the late afternoon. In addition to water workouts, two to three strength and conditioning sessions are scheduled.
Because the body is exposed to high levels of stress, the college teams enjoy excellent medical care. A team doctor is usually part of the team. In addition the divers have access to one or more physiotherapists who can work with the most modern techniques.

What does a season at college look like?

Water divers always compete at the same meets the swimming team is competing at. This means that the season starts at the beginning of October and ends with the national championships in March or April.
There are two types of meets. The so-called dual meets are clash between two universities. Invitational are meets with a big number of team from all over the country. The level of competition is typically very high.
