Studying In the USA
Studying in the USA
Many students and high school graduates do not dare to move abroad because it is extremely expensive – especially in the United States. This is really no surprise! Compared to Europe, the costs for one semester in the United States are not affordable for many people!
of a year in the United States
With the help of a sports scholarship the funding of your studies is no longer a problem
We don’t want you to only dream of going to an American university; we want you to really get there. A sports scholarship can cover the expenditure for an academic year abroad either completely (full scholarship) or at least to some extent (partial scholarship), which also minimizes your own contribution. Kilian Carpenter, former Scholarbook customer, points out the advantages he experienced:
“Tuition fee, semester ticket, renting an apartment, food, running shoes and running gear – Those are all things I don’t need to spend money on in America. My full scholarship covers all of this. I could have never gotten this phenomenal support in Europe! Conclusion: Scholarbook provides a great opportunity with extraordinary returns of investment .”
Kilian Schreiner, Cameron University
How are sports scholarships awarded?
For American universities, the sports teams are their best advertisement. Therefore, the universities are willing to use a lot of money to support great athletes.
Part of the universities’ budget is allocated to full scholarships, which are usually awarded to the best three athletes of the team. The rest of the budget is distributed as multiple partial scholarships. Those partial scholarships pay for at least 50 percent, but usually cover 70 to 90 percent of tuition costs.
Academic and international scholarships
In addition to sports scholarships, almost all universities offer so-called “academic scholarships”. These are financial grants awarded by the colleges for the candidate’s academic performance. Therefore, it is important to have good grades during the last year of high school and have a good score in the “SAT” test (Scholastic Aptitude Test). The SAT is a standardized test, required by almost all colleges in America. For applicants who are already enrolled at a university or have completed a degree, their current grades are the measurement for a scholarship. Therefore, with the help of academic scholarships, you have the chance to cover all your costs, even if you only get awarded a partial sports scholarship. Daniel Heringer, one of our swimmers at Indiana University, was able to finance his studies like this as well.
“Yesterday, I was at the US embassy and applied for my visa. Now, everything is finalized. I even received a letter from my future university, in which they congratulate me to an additional academic scholarship of $5,000 per year. Your determination and coach Matt’s efforts have really made the difference. Thanks a lot!”

Many universities also award international scholarships as mentioned above. These are reserved for international applicants. Important: Your achievements (grades, test results, etc.) are not important. The only requirement needed, is that you are not a US-citizen, and therefore an “international” student.
